About Edgemont Enrichment

In the purpose of improving the young students’ quality of after-school time, after thoughtful discussions and planning in the past few months, the 2016 Fall program was ready to welcome new students. The goal of the program is not only to improve students’ basic language and literacy in Chinese; students will also be exposed to the Chinese culture, history, and the humanities in a fun and relaxed learning environment. The interactive lessons will inspire students the power of team work, that will benefit them in making more friends and broader knowledge. We hope the skills and knowledge learned in this program will promote positive impact on students’ school performance. It can be fully effective use of after-school time to expand horizons and knowledge students after school.

The enrichment program is a play & learn program where students will be exposed to educational elements in a fun learning environment. Our experienced instructors will help improve students’ basic daily Chinese language and literacy skills, and make students more confident and comfortable with using the language. Meanwhile, students also learn discipline, self expression, creativity, and communication skills.
Teaching Philosophy
Instructors will lead activity based lessons for students to experience and utilize their language skills to the fullest. Instructors select appropriate educational games so that students learn in a comfortable learning atmosphere, which is especially important after a long school day. Talks are both practical and interesting, blending Chinese teaching and Chinese culture into one. Instructors use incentives, inspiration and other teaching methods to stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm for learning.

Director Ms. Jaclyn Liu

Before working on the Edgemont Enrichment program, Jaclyn was a full time QA Manager at WWE, leading international and domestic teams on quality assurance of digital projects.

Jaclyn is an active volunteer in the community. She volunteered at Huaxia Chinese School since 2005. She was elected as PTA Chairperson for 2011 school year. She participated and established Huaxia Chinese School of Greater New York (locates in White Plain High School) in 2012. HXGNY has undergone rapid development from about 300 students in the first year to nearly 800 students in the fourth year. During the development process, Jaclyn has contributed to the school as a school board director, vice chairman, and Secretary of the Board at HXGNY. The valuable experiences accumulated during the years have prepared her to establish the Edgemont Enrichment program.

Jaclyn had also organized or participated in many community events. To name a few, she is the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 Edgemont School Board Nomination Committee member; an activity team member of the Edgemont Chinese Association; and a Board of Director at the Overseas Chinese Association (OCA). At OCA, Jaclyn hosted the OCA Ninth Future Stars Concert; co-organized the Asian Heritage Festival that was held at Kansico Dam; and helped at voting registration 101 seminars.

As the parent of two Edgemont students, Jaclyn hopes that the Edgemont Enrichment program will benefit the community by improving the quality of the after school time for the students in the neighborhood.
